Paragraph Selection rules tell XTRAC what paragraph to insert into correspondence.
You can insert paragraphs into correspondence using paragraph inserts. The paragraph inserts display as markers in the text of the correspondence. The marker indicates the name of the paragraph to be inserted. When XTRAC generates the correspondence, it replaces paragraph insert codes with the contents of the referenced paragraph templates.
Paragraphs can also be conditionally inserted into correspondence based on the value of one custom field. If a paragraph insertion is based on more than one field, you can associate a paragraph template with a paragraph type. Paragraph types let you categorize or group paragraph templates. For example, you can have a paragraph type of opening paragraph templates that groups all of the opening paragraph templates that you create.
After you insert the paragraph type marker into the correspondence, XTRAC evaluates the paragraph selection rules that are associated with the paragraph type to determine which paragraph to insert.
For example, if you create a paragraph type to group all of the opening paragraph templates, you can set up the following paragraph selection rules to determine which paragraph to insert:
Note: To define a paragraph selection rule, you need the Create and Paragraph Selection Rule security functions as part of the security group that is associated with your entitlement set.
To define a paragraph selection rule
XTRAC lists any paragraph selection rules that are already defined for the paragraph type.
In the Paragraph Selection Rule Detail window, XTRAC selects the PS Paragraph Selection event.
The criteria that is available depends on the data type of the selected field.
Only the paragraph templates that are associated with the selected paragraph type are listed.
XTRAC saves the paragraph selection rule and lists it in the Paragraph Selection Rule Summary window at the bottom of the sequence list.
