Performing a Basic Search
You can search for a work item based on the work item fields shown in the Basic Search page.
Work item numbers are unique. Searching by work item number returns only one work item. XTRAC does not need any other search criteria to help narrow the search.
All other fields on the Basic Search page are either primary search fields or secondary search fields:
- Primary search field: This field is indexed in the XTRAC database, allowing XTRAC to display results quickly. You must enter a value in a primary search field. The following are primary search fields:
- Customer ID
- Account Number
- Last Name
- Organization
- Start Date
- End Date
- Item Type
- Secondary search field: This field is used to qualify the search criteria specified by one or more primary search fields. The following are secondary search fields:
- First Name
- Subtype
The following search fields have interdependencies:
- Item Type/Subtype: You cannot search by Subtype without first selecting an Item Type.
- Last Name/First Name: You cannot search by First Name without first entering a Last Name.
- Start Date/End Date: You cannot search by a Start Date without an End Date and vice versa. You also cannot search by an End Date that occurs sooner than the Start Date. If you enter invalid data, XTRAC displays an error message. Correct the data and try again.
For detailed information about each of the Basic Search fields, see Basic Search.
