Using the XTRAC Viewer > Adding Annotations to Image Documents

Adding Annotations to Image Documents

You can use the Annotation Toolbar in the XTRAC Viewer to add annotations to image documents. Annotations can be included in document searches (see Searching for Documents). The following table describes available tools in the Annotation Toolbar.

IMPORTANT: If an image is checked out by another user, you cannot reorder the pages because any changes you make would be lost once the image is checked in by the other user. To help you know if an image is checked out by another user, and therefore you should not make any changes to it, a check mark is added to the document icon in the Search Documents, Work Item Attachments, or Document/Attachment Summary view.

If you are not using XTRAC Workbench or the XTRAC Viewer to get to the images on a work item (for example, you are deep linking to the item), be aware that you may not see the check marks to know that the image is already checked out and therefore should not or cannot be edited.

To add annotations to an image document:

1.   Open an image document in the XTRAC Viewer.
2.   On the Annotation Toolbar, select the annotation tool you want to use.
3.   Click and drag the tool on the image page.
4.   Click Save Annotations

Note: The annotations you add to the image are saved with the file and are available the next time it is opened in the XTRAC Viewer. However, you or any other user can remove the annotations with the Select/edit annotations tool. To save the annotations permanently with the image file, you need to download the file to "burn" the annotations into the file. Click the Download ( ) icon to save the file to your hard drive and to "burn" the annotations into the file.

Note: Annotations are saved with the document and are visible when the file is opened in the XTRAC Viewer. However, you or any other user can remove the annotations or add more annotations with the Select/edit annotations tool in the XTRAC Viewer – even if the document is currently checked out by another user. To save the annotations permanently with the image file, you need to use the Download tool to download the file to your hard drive. The download process renames the file and saves it as a TIF file regardless of what type of image file it is before it is checked out (for example, a JPG file becomes a TIF file). In addition, the download process "burns" the annotations to the file so they cannot be removed the next time the file is opened in the XTRAC Viewer.
