Managing Data Types
Overview
A data type is a category of data. It defines a set of constraints, such as an integer that can contain only whole numbers (no decimal or fractional values).
Tasks
Create Data Type
You can create a new complex or value group data type. You cannot create a new simple data type, see Simple Data Types.

From the Home Page, click Manage the Data Dictionary. |

Create a new complex type or value group type |
- From the menu, click the New drop down list and select one of the following:
- Value Group Type
- Complex Type
- From the lower right pane
- Click Create a New Complex type, see Create a New Complex Data Type.
- Click Create a New Value Group type, see Create New Value Group.
Copy Data Type
You can copy an existing complex or value group data type. This lets you easily create new data types without creating them from scratch. When copying an existing data type, the new copy must be given a new name.

In the left pane, select a complex or value group data type. |

2.
|
On the menu bar, click Copy. |
A new complex data type or value group is displayed in the right pane. This new type includes all of the attributes that were contained in the original.

In the right pane, click Check Out. |
|
4.
|
Modify the new data type. |
Update Data Type
|
1.

In the Data Dictionary Editor, double-click a data type, e.g. complex data type.
The data type opens in the right pane and displays the existing versions, the name of the user who modified the version, and the date the version was modified. |

Click the Check Out button.
The Check Out dialog appears. |

In the Check Out dialog you can select whether the changes you make will be major or minor. |
- Minor – version number is incremented by one decimal (1.2, 1.3, 1.4, etc.).
- Major – version number is incremented by one whole number (2.0, 3.0, 4.0, etc.).

Click Save when finished.
Note: If you decide you don't want to save changes, click Undo Checkout. |

Click Check In to save a new version. . |
Import Valid Value Groups from Workflow
Value groups imported from workflow save time and increase data entry accuracy. You will need the User-Defined Fields security rule associated with your entitlement set.

From the Home Page, click Manage the Data Dictionary. |
|
2.
|
Click Create a New Value Group Type. |
|
3.
|
Enter a name for the value group. |
|
4.
|
Click Retrieve Admin Value Group. |
|
5.
|
In the Value Group Fields search text box, start entering the group name to dynamically filter the list. |
The imported values will populate the Values list.
